Maritime Electric and Charlottetown Police are partnering to prevent copper thefts at electrical substations. New E-Watch cameras are being installed at substations across the province with the goals of preventing injury, eliminating copper theft, and assisting in investigations.
Copper thefts from substations have increased in the past four years, leading to serious safety concerns and inconvenient power outages necessary as crews make repairs. Removing copper ground wires from a substation will compromise the safety of components, posing a serious risk of injury or death to anyone who contacts them.
