A 15-year old has been charged with assaulting an off-duty PEI RCMP officer in an incident on April 1st in Bonshaw. The RCMP says the off-duty officer was at a gas station in line at the cash register and noticed the smell of alcohol coming from the person ahead of them. When the officer saw the individual get into the driver’s seat of a vehicle, they intervened and identified themselves as a police officer. The Mounties say that during the conversation, the suspect repeatedly shoved the officer and attempted to return to their vehicle. The officer called 9-1-1 for assistance, and tried again to detain the suspect. The officer was able to control and restrain the suspect, who they say was resisting, and the arrest was completed when other officers arrived on scene.
