Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers have opened the World Series with a victory over the Houston Astros. Kershaw tossed seven stellar innings and Justin Turner launched a tiebreaking homer in a 3-1 win against the visiting Astros. The three-time Cy Young Award winner struck out 11 and allowed only three hits. Game 2 is Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium.
Connor McDavid scored his first goal in seven games but it wasn’t enough to give Edmonton a victory. Phil Kessel scored 42 seconds into overtime to lift Pittsburgh to a 2-1 win over the visiting Oilers. McDavid had tied the game late in the third. Elsewhere, Montreal snapped a seven-game slide with a 5-1 win over Florida, and L-A beat the Senators 3-2 in a shootout. Calgary edged Nashville 3-2 in a shootout, and Vegas surprised Chicago 4-2
