The Canadian Federation of Independent Business has launched an awareness campaign to end the Confederation Bridge tolls, calling on federal elected officials and 2025 election candidates to seriously consider removing the tolls. The campaign, called “Free the Bridge,” focuses on what the group considers the inequity of continued tolls on the Confederation Bridge compared to other major federal infrastructure projects like the Montreal Champlain and Quebec City bridges, which remain toll-free. The campaign says that for small businesses and industries that rely on shipping and transportation, the tolls add significant costs, making it harder to compete in regional and national markets.
