Summerside Council approves land use for overnight emergency shelter

During a special meeting this week, Summerside council voted 6-1, approving land use at 25 Frank Mellish St. for the province to establish a 10-bed overnight emergency shelter.  However, there are conditions – including a 12-month review and funding from the province for more Summerside police officers to monitor the area.  It’s hoped the shelter could be open by October.
