As part of Operation Impact over the long holiday weekend, RCMP conducted checkpoints and extra patrols across PEI.
The focus was on the areas of impaired driving, seatbelt use, and all aspects of aggressive driving including speeding, and distracted driving.
As a result of the check stops, RCMP officers wrote 75 Summary Offence Tickets, including 50 for speeding. The rest were for a variety of offences including failure to wear a seatbelt, use of a handheld device while driving, unsafe passing, and driving while suspended. Fifty drivers received warnings for various offences.
As well, two drivers received alcohol related 7 day suspensions, and a 23 year old man faces impaired related charges.
