O.J. Simpson has died. His family announced his death in a statement on his X account on Thursday.
Simpson was a decorated football star who was acquitted of charges he killed his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman, but wound up in prison years later in an unrelated case. The family says in its statement that Simpson died on Wednesday, surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
Simpson’s legendary football career was forever overshadowed by the 1994 slayings. A criminal court jury found him not guilty of murder, but a separate civil trial jury found him liable.
