In the provincial legislature on Wednesday, a private member’s bill put forward by Liberal MLA Gord McNeilly failed to win approval. McNeilly’s proposed legislation would have diverted some liquor commission profits towards health education. The bill was rejected as the Progressive Conservative majority voted against the bill, while the Opposition Liberals and Third Party Greens voted in favour. Finance Minister Jill Burridge had indicated the bill would not pass in its current state and suggested that it go to a standing committee for more discussion. McNeilly did not want amendments or for it to go to a standing committee.
