Pitcher Chris Bassitt reached 200 innings for the first time, leading the Toronto Blue Jays one step closer to an A-L wild-card berth by beating the New York Yankees 6-0. The Seattle Mariners won 3-2 over the Texas Rangers and pulled within one game of the idle Houston Astros in the race for the final A-L wild-card berth. Seattle also holds the tiebreaker over the Astros. The Jays are one game up on Houston and 2 games up on Seattle. Baltimore blanked Boston 2-0.
The Islanders have advanced to the New Brunswick Senior Baseball League Final thanks to an 8-3 Game 7 win over the Moncton Fisher Cats to win their semifinal series. The Islanders will face the Fredericton Royals for the title. The series starts in Charlottetown on Sunday.
At Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park on Thursday night, the Melissa Rennie stable swept the final two races, including Woodmere Rollily with the fastest trip of the night in the finale in 1:56 flat. Live racing continues Saturday evening at 6 P.M. at Red Shores Charlottetown. Red Shores Summerside races Sunday afternoon with a 1 P.M. opening post.
Trentyn Crane netted the hat trick, while Reid Vos and Robbie Rutledge each scored a pair as the Summerside Western Capitals beat the Pictou County Weeks Crushers 10-7.
