On Friday, the Pride PEI Board of Directors clarified its position on politicians participating in the PEI Pride Parade. In a recent interview, it was implied that provincial politicians would not be invited to participate — but the board says they will be able to march alongside the community in a non-partisan fashion. The Board says that while individual politicians have taken action to be a better ally, partisan political parties still have much work to do to become inclusive organizations that reflect the diverse population of PEI. So, in advance of next year’s Parade, the Board is asking all parties to take a first step and provide diversity, equity, and inclusion training for their elected officials, senior staff, and provincial governing bodies.
