It wasn’t the return home that Alek Manoah was expecting. The struggling Blue Jays pitcher gave up a two-run homer to Juan Soto in the first inning as the San Diego Padres crushed the Jays, 9-1. Manoah threw 92 pitches, allowing four hits and four runs through three innings. He walked 5. His record dips to 2-8 with a 6.18 ERA.
None of the other AL East teams won.
The LA Dodgers downed Baltimore, 10-3. Jason Heyward hit a three run homer. The Orioles still a game back of Tampa Bay.
The Rays lost 5-3 toTexas. Corey Seager hit a three run shot.
The LA Angels dropped the Yankees, 5-1. Mickey Moniak with a two run homer.
Oakland shutout Boston, 3-0 behind the pitching of Luis Medina. JJ Bieday had a two run dinger.
Arizona outlasted Atlanta, 16-13. The NL East leading Braves have lost three in a row. Catcher Christian Walker had a five RBI night including a three run homer.
Former Summerside Western Capital and UPEI Panther from the 90’s, Derek Clancey has a new job. The 54-year old St. John’s native has been hired as the Toronto Maple Leafs Assistant General Manager, player personnel.
Former UPEI hockey Panther all-star defenseman Owen Headrick has signed a contract with the Chicago Wolves in the AHL.

Funeral service for PEI hockey great Billy MacMillan will be held on Saturday at 10.00 with visiting hours from 4-7 on Friday at the Belvedere Funeral Home. MacMillan passed away last weekend at age of 80
The UPEI men’s soccer Panthers have commitments from two Island soccer stars for the upcoming season.
They are Landon Perry who played at Charlottetown Rural and Noah Killorn who played for Colonel Gray. Both are defenders.
