This week, federal Agriculture Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau has announced $6-million in federal funding for the PEI Federation of Agriculture to deliver the On Farm Climate Action Fund in PEI. The PEIFA is one of twelve organizations across Canada selected to receive program funding. The PEIFA will award funds to Island farmers for projects that reduce emissions from agriculture, and those projects will fall under three target areas: cover cropping, nitrogen management, and rotational grazing. The two-year program is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 100-thousand tonnes in PEI and two million tonnes across Canada. It will create three full-time jobs at the PEIFA to lead the implementation of the project.
