There is a wind advisory issued today for the Confederation Bridge until about 7.00 tonight.
The PEI Department of Transportation has the plows out after snow fell across the province last night.
There is drifting snow in some parts of PEI and the roads are slippery in spots.
Use caution on the roads.
The weekend storm is expected to begin around noon today as the system heads north from the eastern US.
The wind will begin to pick up in the afternoon with gusts up to 100.
The heaviest snow will come in the afternoon and will continue until about 6.00 this evening. It will be followed by ice pellets, freezing rain and rain which will change back to snow.
Kings County, according to PEI Stormchaser will see freezing rain late in the afternoon and will arrive in the Charlottetown area by suppertime then hitting the Summerside area by early to mid evening. West Prince may not see the changeover.
20-35 cm of snow is expected with the lower amounts in the east and the higher totals in the west.
Light flurries will be expected early Sunday before the system passes.
The worst conditions will be this afternoon into the evening with blizzard conditions expected.
There is concern for a storm surge and ice rafting with elevated water levels during high tide.
