The Stratford PetroCan/Tim Horton’s location was evacuated and closed off for a few hours Sunday afternoon as the RCMP investigated a suspicious package.
The RCMp was called about noon when the suspicious package was found in a garbage can. Police say there was a noise like an electronic beeping coming from a bag in the garbage.
As a precaution, the building was evacuated and closed, and the RCMP’s Explosives Disposal Unit was called in from Halifax.
The EDU arrived later in the afternoon, and it was determined that it was a smoke detector that was making the noise, and the business reopened after the all-clear was given by police.
