Former MLA and MP George Henderson has passed away at the age of 84.
Henderson was an electrician and shellfish technician who entered politics in the mid-seventies as he was first elected to the provincial legislature in 1974 for 2nd Prince. Henderson was a provincial cabinet Minister serving in a number of portfolios, including Fisheries, Labour, Highways and Public Works.
Then, in 1980 he was elected to the House of Commons as Egmont MP. He served federally until 1988 after winning re-election in 1984.
Premier Dennis King issued a statement Tuesday night saying George Henderson was steadfast in his commitment to public service, and representing the people of Prince Edward Island, and that his resolve for public service lives on through his children, including his son Robert who currently serves as an MLA.
