It was 50 years ago today that man landed on the Moon in the Apollo 11 mission. The Eagle lunar module touched down on July 20, 1969.
U-S astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong landed on the moon’s Sea of Tranquility on July 20th, 1969, as Mike Collins orbited overhead in their command module.
Armstrong was the first man to step on the surface of the moon and planted an American flag.
Many Islanders stayed up until the wee hours of the morning to watch the historic moment that day.
