Defenseman P.O. Joseph has become the highest NHL draft pick ever on the Charlottetown Islanders. Joseph was selected 23rd overall by the Arizona Coyotes.
The Chambly, Quebec native had 6 goals and 39 points and was a plus 14 in the regular season. He added a goal and 5 assists in the playoffs and was a plus 3.
The first pick overall is Nico Hischier of the Halifax Mooseheads who was selected by the New Jersey Devils. He’s the highest draft pick ever from Switzerland.
In 2016-17 he had 38 goals and 86 points in 57 games as a rookie in the Q. Plus 4 goals and 7 points in five games in the World Jr. Hockey Championship for Switzerland. He’s been called the Swiss McDavid.
Philadelphia took Nolan Patrick of the Brandon Wheat Kings on the WHL as the second pick.

The Toronto Blue Jays bullpen collapsed in the 9th inning as
the Kansas City Royals, down 4-1 stormed back with four runs and won 5-4. Ryan Tepera allowed 3 runs while Jason Grilli got a blown save and Aaron Loup got tagged for the loss.
The Boston Red Sox routed the Angels, 9-4 as David Ortiz’s #34 was retired. Sandy Leon drove in four runs. Hanley Ramirez got career homer #250 and Rick Porcello won for the first time since May 23rd.
The Yankees remain tied for first with Boston in the A.L. East. New York got by Texas, 2-1 in 10 innings. Brett Gardner tied the game in the 9th with a home run and Ronald Torreyes won its with a walk-off single in the 10th.
Tampa Bay used three home runs to rip Baltimore, 15-5.Shane Peterson and Derek Norris with two-run shots. Evan Longoria had four RBIs.

It’s a big night for Island curler Brett Gallant who is being honoured at the Charlottetown Curling Complex for being part of the Brad Gushue Newfoundland-Labrador rink that won the Tim Horton’s Brier and the World Men’s Championship this year.
Gallant was second stone ont the team.
The welcome home event goes tonight and will be open to the public at 10 p.m. All tickets sold for the dinner.
Tomorrow you can see the Brier Tankard trophy on display at the Curling Complex from 1-3 and a chance to meet Brett.

The PEI Under 16 football team is set for a road trip to Wolfeville, Nova Scotia tomorrow and a game with Nova Scotia. Both are preparing for the Atlantic Bowl next month. There is a bus leaving UPEI in the morning if you want to travel. The cost is $20 for fans to see the game.
