A new multi-million dollar employment insurance pilot project aimed at helping seasonal workers has been announced.
Malpeque MP Wayne Easter made the announcement in Cavendish Monday on behalf of Social Development Minister Jean-Yves Duclos.
The pilot project will provide seasonal workers with up to five more weeks of benefits. The additional five weeks of benefits will be available to eligible workers in seasonal industries who start a benefit period between August 5, 2018 and May 30, 2020.
Ottawa will invest approximately $189 million to implement the pilot project, which will benefit an estimated more than 25-hundred workers in PEI.
