Environment Minister Richard Brown says the goal for PEI is to be 30 per cent below 2005 levels when it comes to greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
He announced the province’s five-year Climate Action Change Plan yesterday at Holland College and there was no mention of a carbon tax.
Brown says the goal is to reduce carbon emissions and he believes Islanders can reach it.
Brown says already Islanders are switching to cleaner and cheaper energy sources such as fire wood, wood pellets and propane.
He also points to dropping the provincial portion of the HST on electric bills that was contained in the budget this spring.
Brown says the Action Plan will present “made in PEI” solutions and will build a better and more sustainable future for the Island.
He says the key is a transition away from dependence on fossil fuels.
