Students, faculty, and staff at UPEI are calling on government to add post-secondary institutions to the list of public bodies included under PEI’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
The UPEI Student Union, UPEI Faculty Association, and CUPE 1870 say with nearly half the university’s revenue coming from government, Islanders have the right to access information about the post-secondary institutions they fund with their tax dollars.
The legislation is under review and spokespersons for all three unions say it’s long overdue that PEI is brought up to speed with other provinces and territories.
