The RCMP Dive team arrived from New Brunswick early Wednesday morning to aid in the search of a man who jumped from the Hillsborough Bridge into the icy waters below on Christmas Day.
Staff Sgt Shane Hubley tells Ocean 100, that given the ice conditions and the wind and state of the water, it was too dangerous to conduct a search.
Hubley says it was impossible to get to the area from shore because of thin ice but ironically there’s too much ice to try and get a boat into the waters of the Hillsborough River where the man is believed to have jumped. He says they’ll be assessing the conditions and remain in contact with the RCMP underwater recovery team.
Hubley says they also have the help of some civilians who are ready to assist with the search with underwater drones when it is deemed safe.
