Canada’s premiers are set to meet with Prime Minister Mark Carney on day two of their semi-annual meeting Tuesday.
The meeting Monday in Ontario’s cottage country saw premiers meet with leaders from First Nations that included the Assembly of First Nations, and the Native Women’s Association of Canada.
While the Indigenous leaders said they were disappointed following the discussion, the premiers pledged economic reconciliation with Indigenous people through major infrastructure and resource projects.
Trade and tariffs are sure to be high on the agenda as Prime Minister Mark Carney joins the group of Premiers for talks Tuesday. Premier Rob Lantz has said that he will be speaking directly with Prime Minister Carney about what he calls the immediate need to make good on the promise to lower the tolls on the Confederation Bridge to $20 and reduce the Wood Islands Ferry tolls by half.
