Trade seems to be top of mind as Canada’s premiers, including Premier Rob Lantz, are set to hold a three-day meeting in Ontario — starting Monday. However, Day 1 involves discussions with Indigenous leaders including the Assembly of First Nations, the Metis National Council and the Native Women’s Association of Canada. Prime Minister Mark Carney will meet with premiers on Tuesday. Premier Lantz says that he will talk with Carney and his team about the immediate need to follow through on their promise to lower the tolls on the Confederation Bridge to $20 and reduce the Wood Islands Ferry tolls by half. Lantz says Islanders and visitors alike deserve fair and affordable access to and from PEI. The Premier says he will also ensure the federal government is fully aware of the recent disruption in service with the new MV Northumberland and ask them to have Transport Canada officials monitor the situation closely.
