Elections PEI clarifies date for the two provincial by-elections

A clarification Thursday from Elections PEI that the two by-elections in Districts 9 and 15, Charlottetown-Hillsborough Park and Brackley-Hunter River, will actually be on Tuesday, August 12th — not Monday, August 11th as had been initially announced.  Elections PEI says it provided Executive Council with an Election Date Calculation Tool to assist in planning the date of an Election and the Advance Voting Days.  But it says there was an error on the tool, and it calculated an incorrect date for Election Day with an election period of only 25 days.  Under legislation, the election period must be 26-to-32-days. Therefore, the amended Election date is August 12th, making for a 26-day campaign.
