Early Sunday morning, shortly after 4:00am, Stratford RCMP attempted a traffic stop for speeding on Route 1 in Stratford. Police say that instead of stopping, the driver sped off and crashed a short distance away into the roundabout and curb near the Stratford RCMP Detachment. The Mounties say the driver attempted to flee on foot, and assaulted a police officer in the process. The driver, a 27-year old Queens County man, was arrested and has been charged with Flight from Police; Impaired driving; Assault on a police officer; Resisting arrest; and Dangerous driving. The officer did not suffer any serious injuries as a result of the assault.
