With a forecasted high of 27 degrees on Tuesday and a Humidex at 35, Islanders are reminded to protect themselves and their loved ones from heat-related illnesses. With temperatures like we’ll see on Tuesday, health officials say it is important to stay informed and prepared to prevent heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and other heat-related conditions. The Chief Public Health Office has offered some tips to stay safe during extreme heat — stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day; wear appropriate lightweight clothing; use sunscreen; and seek reprieve from the heat.
