With the official arrival of summer Friday night, thought’s turn to a summer highlight on PEI — Old Home Week. Some of the details for the big week were released Thursday. Old Home Week this year runs August 8th through 16th, with the highlights including Campbell’s Amusements; MBRA barrel racing; children’s entertainment; Sounds of the Island; Extreme Lumberjack; the Old Home Week Junior Beef Show; and the Old Home Week English Horse Show. Advance event passes will be on sale within the next two weeks.
The Gold Cup Parade will wind its way through downtown Charlottetown on Friday, August 15th. This year’s theme is Let the Music Move You, and Lennie Gallant has been named the 2025 Parade Marshal. The Gold Cup Parade falls on National Acadian Day this year, and attendees will be treated to a lively tintamarre and several musical floats showcasing PEI’s vibrant Acadian community. Applications to enter a float in the Gold Cup Parade are now open.
Harness racing is a big part of Old Home Week, and this year the Gold Cup and Saucer Trials will all be held on Saturday, August 9th as part of a super card of racing. The Gold Cup and Saucer Final will be held on Saturday, August 16th. Some special plans are being made as Red Shores celebrates its 20th anniversary.
