U-S President Donald Trump has used an executive order to double steel and aluminum tariffs.
Prime Minister Mark Carney has released a statement in response to the U-S administration ratcheting up the levies, saying the increase from 25 to 50 per cent is “unlawful and unjustified.”
The hike won’t apply to the U-K, as the U-S is working to finalize a separate trade deal with Britain.
Despite pre-existing tariffs, Canada remains the U-S’s top steel supplier, and industry leaders are warning the impact could be severe.
