The union representing about 55-thousand workers in a labour dispute with Canada Post says the corporation’s refusal to go to binding arbitration demonstrates it’s not interested in a reasonable outcome.
The response comes after the postal service rejected a request from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers Saturday to send the dispute to arbitration.
The Crown corporation believes arbitration would be long and complicated and would likely last more than a year, adding to what it described as its significant financial challenges.
Canada Post is seeking a union membership vote on its latest offers made Wednesday, calling on Jobs Minister Patty Hajdu to facilitate the ballot. C-U-P-W argues that a forced vote may fail to end the labour conflict and risks further division, prolonging uncertainty for all parties.
