An attempt at a trans-Atlantic flight in a hydrogen air balloon ended in PEI on Thursday. A multinational team of pilots lifted off Wednesday night from Maine in the Torabhaig Atlantic Explorer, attempting to become the first hydrogen open basket gas balloon to cross the Atlantic Ocean. But the crew, led by Pennsylvania man, had to make a precautionary landing near Cardigan late Thursday morning because of a suspected gas leak. The balloon landed in a swampy area and crew members became stuck, but there were no serious injuries. One crew member did have to be treated for minor injuries.
