A 41-year old Charlottetown area man is facing several charges after a series of incidents last Wednesday. It began when a Summerside Police officer tried to conduct a traffic stop shortly after 3:30pm on a speeding vehicle in the Water Street East area. The driver fled in a dangerous manner and for safety reasons police did not pursue the vehicle. Just a few minutes later, Summerside Police got a report that the same vehicle was then involved in a theft of gas from a Water Street gas station. Soon after, it was involved in a single-vehicle collision in North Bedeque, to which the RCMP had responded. The RCMP apprehended the driver near the scene of the collision and the investigation revealed that the vehicle had been stolen from Water Street in the Summerside area just prior to the theft of gas. The man is facing charges of theft of vehicle, dangerous driving, flight from police and theft under $5,000.
