In the PEI legislature on Wednesday, a Green bill to increase transparency and accountability regarding sexual misconduct complaints in Island schools was passed unanimously. The bill was put forward by Karla Bernard, Leader of the Third Party and Third Party Critic for Education. The bill requires each educational authority to implement a sexual misconduct policy within one year. It also requires annual public reports from each educational authority to include information on complaints of sexual misconduct under the sexual misconduct policy, and the supports and services available to students. The successful bill is expected to commence at the beginning of the 2025/26 school year.
