A ceremony at Rideau Hall in Ottawa Tuesday for the swearing-in of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s new cabinet. There is a PEI representative in that cabinet. Malpeque MP Heath MacDonald has been named the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food. The first Minister sworn-in during Tuesday’s ceremony was Dominic LeBlanc, who becomes the president of the Privy Council and Minister Responsible for Canada-U-S trade, Intergovernmental Affairs and “one Canadian economy.” That comes in the wake of U-S President Donald Trump’s tariffs and threats against Canada’s sovereignty. Carney also named Anita Anand as his new Foreign Affairs Minister, replacing Melanie Joly who is moving to Industry. Chrystia Freeland is keeping her role in Transport and will oversee Internal Trade. Maninder Sidhu takes over International Trade. Francois-Philippe Champagne will remain the Finance Minister. Also of note, Gatineau MP Steven MacKinnon, a native Islander, was sworn-in as Leader of the Government in the House of Commons.
