The PEI government says it has launched its version of the national pharmacare program introduced by the federal government. The province says that as of yesterday, the program will provide Island residents with coverage for most contraceptives and diabetes medications, as well as expanded access to blood glucose test strips. The federal and provincial governments recently signed a pharmacare agreement, which will see Ottawa providing more than 30-million dollars over the next four years to improve access to medications. The program covers a wide range of contraceptives, up to 18 insulin and oral diabetic medications and up to 300 test strips per year.
