Premier Rob Lantz apologized Wednesday as he faced questions from the Liberal opposition in regards to the case involving a former substitute teacher who pleaded guilty this week to sexual touching at a primary school. 40-year old Matthew Alan Craswell pleaded guilty to three child pornography charges, as well as one charge of sexual interference for an incident in which he sexually touched a girl in a classroom in a primary school in PEI. In the legislature, Premier Lantz said government was profoundly sorry that this occurred, and that it should not have. The Premier said that there are many safeguards in place to prevent such incidents from happening, but those safeguards failed in this case. Lantz says they will review processes to ensure that safeguards are as good as they can possibly be, and that the fundamental responsibility to protect children is as good as it can possibly be.
