You can expect an increased police presence on Island roads for this New Year’s Eve. PEI RCMP say they will have checkpoints set up and will be using roadside screening devices to detect and deter impaired drivers. In the last two years, PEI RCMP roadside screening results led to 261 drivers being stopped and facing roadside suspensions, vehicle seizures and criminal code charges. PEI RCMP urge Islanders to plan ahead for a sober ride, and to report impaired drivers by calling 9-1-1.
