The P-E-I government says it will eliminate bridge and ferry tolls for Islanders who must travel outside the province for medical appointments.
The motion was tabled in the legislature by the Green Party and unanimously approved.
Green member Matt MacFarlane issued a statement saying tolls that can cost between 50 and 90 dollars can add to the financial strain on patients and their families.
MacFarlane says off-Island travel is often unavoidable for residents due to the lack of certain specialized medical services on P-E-I.
