PEI RCMP and Provincial Conservation Officers are stepping up joint enforcement on the Confederation Trail. Conservation and Police Officers have been noticing an increase in the amount of damage to the trail — gates being sawed off and damage that police say is caused by unauthorized vehicle use. The Off-Highway Vehicle Act and the Trespass to Property Act are enforced by PEI Conservation Officers and PEI RCMP, including the laying of charges for damage to public or private property, and trespassing, if required. Just like cars, off-highway vehicles can also be impounded for up to 30 days as part of any charges operators may face.
