A Red Dress Walk was hosted by the Aboriginal Women’s Association of PEI on Sunday at the Victoria Park Pavilion in Charlottetown. Sunday was The National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, which is recognized each year on May 5. It is a day to bring awareness and to recognize and honour the lost lives of Indigenous women and girls. Premier Dennis King says that it is important to remember the thousands of missing Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people in Canada. King says we must recognize the impacts of violence, not only on the families but on communities as well. He says his government will continue to implement the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Calls for Justice to help end gender-based violence in the province.
