The latest figures compiled by a University of Toronto research group show PEI had one of the highest rates of food insecurity among the provinces last year. Proof of assembled numbers from Statistics Canada indicating P-E-I had the second-highest rate in the country, with 28.6 per cent of Islanders in food insecure households. Nova Scotia had the highest rate as nearly 29 per cent of Nova Scotians lived in food insecure households in 2023. The figures show 26 per cent of people Newfoundland and Labrador and 25.6 per cent of New Brunswick residents worried about where their next meal might come from at some point last year.
