The Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce welcomes the announcement in Tuesday’s Federal Budget that carbon tax rebates will be introduced for small and medium-sized businesses. The budget has committed $2.5 billion in funds from the Carbon Tax Fuel Charge Proceeds for a rebate to small and medium businesses. Proceeds will also be returned automatically each year going forward. The Chamber says that with increasing housing supply another of its priorities, it welcomes the federal budget’s strategy to unlock 3.87 million new homes by 2031 and the $400-million top-up of the Housing Accelerator Fund to fast-track housing. Of concern for the Chamber is a deficit projected to be near $40-billion in 2024-25.
