Prices at the pumps have gone back up again Monday with the Federal Carbon Tax increasing with the flip of the calendar to April. Fuel prices had dropped across the board on Friday with the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission’s weekly price adjustments. With the carbon pricing levy, you’re now paying an additional 3.3 cents per litre for gas; 4.0 cents per litre for diesel; and 2.3 cents per litre for propane. In Atlantic Canada, home heating oil is currently exempt from the federal carbon tax because of our high reliance on oil to heat houses. The federal government says an average PEI family of four will get about 880 dollars a year back in rebate cheques to take the sting off the higher prices due to the carbon levy.
