The PEI Sports Hall of Fame has announced its Class of 2023. There are five new inductees announced including hockey star and coach Dave Cameron; the 1969-70 Charlottetown Islanders hockey team that went to the Memorial Cup semifinals; field hockey star Katie Baker; Rickey Burns, a longtime 5-pin bowler and coach who has been involved for years with youth bowling and Special Olympics; and Ray Moore, who will be inducted posthumously for his major role in rejuvenating rugby in the province in the 1970’s and 80’s. A formal induction ceremony will be held in early 2024.
The Brent Campbell trained Time To Dance captured the $3,800 Preferred Pace in race 11 on Sunday at Red Shores in Charlottetown with Marc Campbell in the bike. They stopped the clock in 1.54.3.
St.FX got by UPEI 3-1 in women’s hockey. Kierra St. Peter had the Panthers goal. UPEI is 2-and-8.
The Charlottetown Knights improved to 8-and-1 in Major U18 Hockey with a 6-3 win over Saint John. Dawson Sharkey scored twice and leads the league with 13 goals.
After a day off, action resumes Monday with the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge. At 12:00pm, Czechia plays Finland at Eastlink Centre; at 7pm at Credit Union Place Canada White plays the US; and at 7pm at Eastlink Centre Canada Red plays Sweden.
Holland College won 75-64 at Mount A in Men’s basketball. Aaron Simmons had 23 points. The Women’s Canes lost 74-64 to the Mounties. Amy Plaggenhoef had 17 points.
