The Atlantic Breeders Crown weekend in harness racing is here with the consolation finals going this afternoon with post time at 12.30 at Red Shores in Charlottetown. Tomorrow afternoon its the finals.
The Peakes Bombers had a 9-8 walk-off win in Game 5 of the Kings County Baseball League finals over the Morell Chevies in Stratford. The Chevies still lead the series, 3-2 with Game 6 next week.
The Baie-Comeau Drakkar dropped the Charlottetown Islanders, 5-2 in the Q as the Isles began a weekend road trip in Quebec. Michael Horth scored his 6th of the season for Charlottetown. Alexis Jacques got his first as the Islanders were outshot, 32-16. The Islanders are 3-3.
St. Thomas over UPEI, 4-1 in women’s hockey in Fredericton. Avery Penner had the only Panthers goal as UPEI fell to 0-2. Amber Daley scored the winner in the 2nd period.
Edmonton got by Seattle, 3-1 and Vancouver won 3-1 over Calgary in NHL preseason.
UPEI improved to 4-1 in AUS women’s rugby with a 31-19 victory at Acadia.
Holland College improved 7-0 in the women’s soccer with a 3-0 win at Kings College.
The men Hurricances tied Kings, 1-1 and are 5-0-2.
The PEI FC girls under 17 team dropped Kitchener, 3-1 at the Toyota National soccer championship.
PEI lost 4-2 to Burnaby in the boys under 17.
In the under 15’s, PEI FC blanked Winnipeg, 1-0 in the boys.
The PEI girls tied Regina, 1-1.
The front running Toronto Argos ran over Edmonton, 35-12 in the CFL.
Winnipeg has sole possession of first in the West going to overtime to beat second place BC, 34-26.
Morell’s Scott Morrison is back in the NBA as an assistant coach for the Utah Jazz. Morrison was head coach of the Salt Lake City Stars in the NBA G-League last season and is a former Boston Celtics assistant coach who also coached one season with the Perth Wildcats in Australia. Jazz head coach Will Hardy says Morrison is a “brilliant tactician, with a great offensive mind.”

The UPEI men’s hockey Panthers have their home debut against defending national champion UNB at 7.00 tonight at the MacLauchlan Arena. The Panthers opened the AUS campaign with a 4-2 win in Moncton on Wednesday. There are six returning Panthers and 18 new recruits on the roster.
UPEI will honour the memory of one of its greatest stars in a pregame ceremony. Billy MacMillan, an NHL player and coach and Stanley Cup winner, passed away this summer. He played for the Saint Dunstan’s Saints in the mid 1960’s and took them to a silver medal in the nationals in 1964-65. He also coached the Panthers to their last conference championship in 1990-91.
