The Canadian Hurricane Centre in Dartmouth says it’s far too early to tell if powerful Hurricane Lee will affect our weather in the Maritimes by next weekend.
Chris Fogarty, the program manager for the Hurricane Centre says there are several long range models for the storm system but there are only predictions and of little use this early.
Lee was Category 5 hurricane on Thursday but has weakened. It’s down to a Category 3 this morning. It’s moving north toward the Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico this weekend. It will then turn toward the Bahamas on Tuesday as it blows up the northeast.
One model has it heading off the coast of Nova Scotia. Another has it more inland and heading east of PEI and west of Cape Breton through the Northumberland Strait.
Another has it going through the Bay of Fundy and touching Prince County before heading to Newfoundland.
All of these are just models.
We’ll keep you posted all week.
In the meantime it is good to prepare a 72-hour emergency kit with supplies like food and water.
Also, take in lawn furniture and plants if warnings are announced.
