The Toronto Blue Jays dropped the Boston Red Sox, 7-3 at Fenway for their first win over the Sox after ten straight losses this season. New second baseman Davis Schneider made his debut with a home run in his first major league at bat in front of over 20 family and friends. He had two hits for the night. Whit Merrifield, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and Matt Chapman all homered. Alek Manoah pitched the win.
Toronto is 2.5 up on Seattle and 3 ahead of Boston in the chase for the last wild card spot.
The Mariners got by the Angels, 9-7.
The Yankees are just four games over .500 losing 7-3 to Houston.
Baltimore over the Mets, 10-3. The Orioles are 2 games up on Tampa Bay in the AL East.
The Rays shutout Detroit, 8-0.
Atlanta blanked the Cubs, 8-0 behind the pitching Max Fried.
PEI doubled Saskatchewan, 8-4 at the National U22 baseball championship in Stonewall Manitoba. Jordan Maher got the win in relief. PEI is 1-2 after a 13-0 loss to Ontario-2. Nolan Ryan had a big day for PEI with four hits. PEI plays Quebec this morning.
The Island teams got their first wins in the National U15 Basketball championship at the University of Calgary.
PEI won 84-48 over the Territories in the boys. Yaozu Ren led with 32 points.
PEI downed New Brunswick, 58-43 in the girls led by Alex Newson with 22 points.
In the CFL, the Toronto Argos took their first loss in seven games, bowing 20-7 in Calgary.
On Today: A 14-dash card of harness racing is set for 6.00 Saturday evening at Red Shores in Charlottetown with Old Home Week just a few days away. Roll Em with driver Marc Campbell is the 5-2 favourite in the 12th race feature that has seven entries. Campbell leads the track with 61 wins followed by Jason Hughes with 50 trips to the winner’s circle. David Dowling has 43 and Adam Merner has 40.
