Federal Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland was in Charlottetown on Friday. Freeland was questioned about the ferry service between Wood Islands and Caribou, but said she had nothing new to announce. The service has had to be suspended at times this season due to mechanical issues with the MV Confederation. Freeland emphasized that Cardigan MP and new Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay has been clear in discussions with her about the importance of a reliable ferry service for PEI. She says that MPs Sean Casey and Heath MacDonald have also raised the ferry issue with her.
