The Boston Red Sox snapped a five game losing streak, blanking the Toronto Blue Jays, 5-0. Canadian born James Paxton fired a 3 hitter with 7 strikeouts. Justin Turner, Jarren Duran and Masatka Yoshida all homered. The Sox have won all four meetings with the Jays this season. Toronto stays a half game out in the wild card.
First place Tampa Bay routed Seattle, 15-4 with an 8 run 8th inning. Randy Arozarena hit a 3 run homer.
Minnesota over Baltimore, 8-1. Byron Buxton hit a 3 run shot. The Twins lead Cleveland by a game in the AL Central with the Guardians falling 10-1 to the Cubs.
Atlanta set a team record with its 54th win in the first half of the season, blasting Miami, 16-4. Matt Olson hit a pair of homers. The Braves set a National League record with 61 home runs in June.
The Yankees game in St. Louis was rained out.
The winless Edmonton Elks lost 26-7 in Ottawa in CFL football. The Elks are 0-4.
The Maritime Junior Hockey League has released its schedule for 2023-24. The Summerside Western Capitals will be moving from the North to South Division with South Shore moving to West Kent, New Brunswick. The Caps, now 43 years old, will play their home opener on Saturday, September 23rd vs the Pictou County Crushers.
The 52-game balanced schedule will see the league’s 12 teams facing opponents eight times. The top four teams in each division will qualify for the playoffs.
On Today: Harness racing at Red Shores in Summerside with post time at 1.00 and 12 dashes for the holiday.
The first place Charlottetown Islanders have a doubleheader with Saint John at 1.00 at Memorial Field in New Brunswick Senior Baseball. The Islanders hold down first place in the league standings with an 10-2 record and have won three of four meetings with the Alpines.
