The Las Vegas Golden Knights opened the Stanley Cup finals with a 5-2 win over the Florida Panthers. The Knights scored three times in the third led by Zack Whitecloud, Mark Stone and Reilly Smith with an empty netter. The game was tied, 2-2 after 40 minutes. Game 2 is Monday night in Vegas.
The Memorial Cup final is tonight in Kamloops, BC. The Quebec Remparts go for their third title. They won in 1971 and 2006 and lost in 1973 and 1974. Seattle is looking for its first Mem Cup championship.
Kinkora, PEI’s Dave Cameron has been named the CHL Coach of the Year after his Ottawa 67’s set a franchise record with 51 wins and 107 points as regular season champs in the OHL. Cameron is fourth among active coaches with 800 games and 400 wins through 12 seasons.
Connor Bedard of the Regina Pats was named the CHL’s Player of the Year, Top Scorer and Top Prospect. He’s expected to be the first round pick of the Chicago Black Hawks in the NHL Draft.
The Toronto Blue Jays will go for another series win at CitiField in New York today after getting by the Mets, 2-1. Another solid outing for pitcher Jose Berrios. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit an RBI double in the 9th that brought home George Springer with the winning run. Toronto has won 6 of 8.
Boston and Tampa Bay split. The Red Sox used a six run 6th to win the opener, 8-5. Justin Turner hit a three run double. Alex Verdugo had three hits and two RBIs.
The Rays won the nightcap, 4-2 as Harold Ramirez put Tampa ahead in the 9th with a two run double.
The Yankees doubled the Dodgers, 6-3. Aaron Judge got his 19th homer. Jake Bauer hit two home runs.
San Francisco shutout Baltimore, 4-0. Alex Cobb struck out seven for the Giants to get his 5th win. Wilmer Flores hit a two run single.
Mark Carragher won the Countryview Golf Club Open with a 30 foot putt on the second playoff hole to beat Kevin Chen. That’s two straight titles for Carragher.
Time to Dance won the Saturday night feature in harness racing at Red Shores in Charlottetown in 1.58/4 on a muddy track with Corey MacPherson behind. Gilles Barrieau reigned three winners including Affair Somewhere in 2.00/1.
Racing resumes on Tuesday night at Red Shores in Summerside.
