The extremely cold temperatures that hit PEI on Saturday did break some long-standing records. Environment Canada says Summerside and East Point saw record low temperatures. For Summerside, temperatures dropped to -26.7 degrees Celsius, beating the previous record of -24.4 set back in 1931. In East Point, the temperature fell to -26.1 degrees Celsius, breaking the previous mark of -25.0 set in 1971. Environment Canada says records for East Point have only been kept since 1967.
